I've been absent for quite a while. Writer's block, I guess. Ha! More like I've forgotten I created this blog. But I'm back and I have something to say.
Reading the past blog I wrote has made me want to play the guitar again. From the time I wrote it, I had bought an actual chromatic tuner and a travel sized classical and electric guitar. I also ditched learning Mouthful of Cavities and learned St. Andrew's Fall instead--which I can totally jam with my brother and sister, complete with bass and lead guitar. I also learned The Rain Song. It took a while, and consisted of many frustrating nights, practice and sometimes whining, but I can now play it completely. And play it decent, too. I have also forgotten completely that I could play Street Spirit until I re-read my post and now have a desire to get to a guitar and play it.
Probably one of the biggest reasons why I disappeared from writing these small previews to my brain is because I moved out. Which means that I now cook my own food (and I did not have those basic cooking lessons I intended to get), clean my own bathroom, sweep my own floors and pay my own bills. It sucks, but the privacy and freedom is an awesome trade-off. It also turns out that cooking is quite easy, and basic cooking lessons--although probably extremely helpful--would've been a waste of money.
I never picked up a racket sport or studied art. I did, however, pick up needles and learned how to knit. I started with crappy yarn, cheap needles and a scarf project and has now graduated to hemp yarn, a complete interchangeable round needle set and bags and beanies. If I could sell this stuff, I would call it sticky fingers (as this is how my fingers tend to get when I'm in my knitting zone). As said in the previous blog, I learned everything I know about knitting through the wonderful world that is called the internet. Videos, blogs, pattern sites and all these other cool knitting sites have it all. There is absolutely no need to enroll for lessons, everything is free and online.
I also started to read again. During the course of my great "move out" I completely abandoned my love affair with books. I found myself picking up a book, dropping it, and never picking them up again. But thanks to Max Brooks' World War Z (I know it's a weird comeback book, but it kicks so much ass!), I got the groove back again and is now currently reading Killing Yourself to Live. This book is about music and a great road trip down North American highways to check out places where great musicians have gone to die--something I would like to do some day (the road trip part and not the gone to die part). The book is written in the first person and the main character is the author (although the book is only 85% truth). He reminds me so much of a good friend of mine. Down to the OC-ness of picking sounds for the trip, excessive need to explain everything down to the detail, inability to find functional relationships, and his love for basketball.
I have also gotten into the show How I Met Your Mother, which my younger siblings have been telling me was cool since it's first season started airing. I thought they were too uncool to recommend a TV show for me...but I was wrong (again, I love the privacy of having my own home where I can indulge in the pleasure of watching an awesome show I had previously dissed yet no one can see me do so). Right now I really would like to see Canada, not to mention catch some awesome bands that hail from there. And most importantly, Let's Go to the Mall by Robin Sparkles is probably my current all-time favorite song right now.
